3 Feb 2019 by John Kennedy

Tigers U16 Girls came into this game looking to take the win over Phoenix. With a good supporter turn out from for both teams, it was Phoenix who started the brighter, leading 7-3 with 3:42 left in the 1st, however they ran into foul trouble and following a 3 from Emilie and a nice finish from Kelly-Ann, the Tigers were successful with some free throws to lead 19-11 at the end of the 1st. Into the 2nd, Phoenix pushed hard to narrow the gap, however with both teams missing opportunities, Tigers maintained their advantage. Into the 3rd and Tigers took advantage of a couple of quick steels to maintain their 8 point lead and with 1:46 left Tigers were ahead 35-24 with Linda dominating on the rebounds, Phoenix could not close the gap any further. This third period was very hard fought by both teams, with Phoenix moving the ball round well to create chances, while Tigers maintained their drive to the basket – contrasting styles. The 4th period was equally competitive, with both Tigers competing for every ball, Phoenix continuing with their passing style. Tigers got into foul trouble with 1:44 to go, however they held a 42-31 lead and saw out the game 43-33. With 4 games left in the season, Tigers will be pushing for a 2nd place finish against Towers who they need to play twice.
