Tigers U16 Girls were first up on court against Phoenix. Phoenix were unbeaten so far in the season and Tigers only defeat was against Phoenix earlier in the season and for Tigers to move above Phoenix in the league they would need to win by more than 16 – a tall ask against Phoenix. The 1st period was very competitive but Tigers contributed to their own down fall as Phoenix turned over the ball several times to hold a 17-14 lead. Into the 2nd, Phoenix started quickly with some well worked baskets and Tigers longer range shooting not finding the target, Phoenix led 23-14 with the first TO in the period. Tigers fought back in the later stages of the period to get within 2 of Phoenix, but lost possession twice in the last 17 seconds to give up 4 points with Phoenix ahad 30-24 at the end of the second. And so the scene was set for an exhilerating 3rd period of end to end action, it certainly got the pulses racing as the Tigers pressed Phoenix and turned round the defecit to lead 40-38 at the end, this was truely shaping up to be the close game everyone expected. With a good crowd cheering the Tigers on and with the momentum from the 3rd period, the Tigers opened up 10 point lead with 4:30 left in the period, could the Tigers overturn that 16 point margin from the first game. Tigers extended their lead and Phoenix continued to press forward trading scores as the game entered the final stage with Tigers needing 4 points to overturn the earlier game. With the Tigers playing keep ball to run down the clock, they finally took an couple of late baskets in the game to win 65-47 – an 18 point swing to send the crowd home with a spring in their step. An absolutely fabulous game which got the heart rates up and pulses races.
