Tigers U16 Boys defeated in Overtime by Flyers

Basketball is a game of fine margins and every second counts, never was this truer than this game which played with the emotions of all the players and supporters. Tigers took to the game with a depleted squad of 7 players but got off to a great start to lead 14-2 at the end of the 1st period, but Newry fought back in the 2nd to only trail by 5, 16-11 at the close of the period. Into the 3rd and the Tigers continued to lead the game against a tall Newry team ending the period 29-22 ahead. Into the 4th and the Tigers continued to lead the game and held onto their 7 point lead, but Newry were starting to dominate the rebounds with 15 also making a difference for Newry on offence. With 27.8 seconds left, Newry were only 3 points down and with the Tigers defending well, it was 15 who stepped up on the buzzer and shot a 3 pointer to put this game into overtime, 35-35. Into overtime and Newry had the momentum and took the lead for the first time in the game, but they got into foul trouble,however the Tigers could not take advantage and with the Tigers starting to chasing the game, Newry hit them on the break and ran out winners 46-39.
