Tigers take double win over Phoenix

27 Nov 2017 by John Kennedy

What a difference a day makes is very true for the U14 and U16 Boys who took to the court to take on Phoenix today.

First up was the U16 Boys who put on a fabulous display of teamwork, passing, movement and link up play to take their first win of the season over Phoenix. The boys got off to a bright start and with a score on the buzzer at the end of the first, led 11-6. Phoenix regrouped and fought back in the 2nd period with both teams trading scores during a great second period, Tigers just holding the lead 22-21. Tigers kept setting the pace in the 3rd and with Phoenix on team fouls, Tigers were able to end the period 35-33 ahead. The 4th period saw the Tigers continue to press, but the game remained tight. With 1.52 left, Tigers led by 6, 49-43, with 36.4 left Tigers led by 4, 51-47 and Tigers closed out the game 52-48.

Next up were the U14 Boys who were involved in a tight loss yesterday to Blaze. The 1st period was very tight and competitive, with both teams getting into foul trouble but unable to capialise from the free throw line, Tigers ending the period 10-8 ahead. The 2nd period ebedded and flowed with the teams trading baskets, Tigers holding on to the lead 17-16. Into the 3rd and Phoenix got into early foul trouble, but Tigers missed several free throws which allowed Phoenix to capitalise and only be 33-31 ahead. Into the 4th and the Tigers got off to a great start with Phoenix unable to cope with the Tigers height and the Tigers opened a lead of 7 with 2:12 left. Phoenix missed a number of free throws but continued to challenge Tigers on the fast break and closed the gaps in the final seconds, but the Tigers held on for a fabulous bounce back win 48-45.

Great talent on display from both clubs today.
